UNIVERSITY of PITTSBURGH | SWANSON SCHOOL of ENGINEERING | ART of MAKING Spring 2018

OUR PROJECT
MOTIVATION
-
Habitual sitting for longer than 90 minutes results in a two-fold greater risk of death
-
Sedentary jobs increase risks of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease
-
Effects are not reversible through exercise or other good habits
HUMAN-CENTERED DESIGN
Based on preliminary results of 165 surveyed users, comfort, portability, and encouragement were essential to our design, which is aimed at people working in office environments.
How might we encourage short, staggered periods of activity throughout the workday?
OBJECTIVE
To create a product that encourages office workers and other adults who sit frequently in their work environment to reduce health risks by lightly exercising regularly for short periods throughout their work day.
NEXT STEPS
-
Continue user testing
-
Implement posture feedback via app and
-
In-office social gamification aspects via app
